Abel and his newly named collective The Chrysalids release their second stunning album featuring 13 seminal tracks captured mainly live at Roundhead studios during two days in July 2007 by Dale Cotton and featuring Jolie Holland and Anika Moa. Little Death (2006)
Abel´s debut release which has garnered shining reviews since its New Zealand launch in February 2006. Named the Alternatui album of the year 2006 and featuring the track Hospice for Destitute Lovers which became a finalist in the International Songwriting Competition in 2008. Forgiven By the Moon (1998)
The unfinished first album engineered by Edmund McWilliams (aka Ed Cake) and featuring Gabriel White on nearly every other instrument. Watch out for this secret gem one day…
Woodenhead soundtrack (2003)
A genius compiling of the songs, narration and score from Florian Habicht´s noir cinema classic Woodenhead (in which Steve played the voice of the lead Gurt). Features Steve singing a couple of Marc Chesterman´s beautiful songs (The World is a Difficult Place and The luckiest Man) and a version of Abel´s own Hospice for Destitute Lovers which closes the flick.
Monkey Magic (2004)
A different mastering of the same recording of Wonder which features on Little Death features on the Monkey records compilation due to Nigel Braddock being the man who recorded this version of the track in his bedroom.
An anti-Genetic Engineering compilation of mostly electronically oriented music which placed Abel as the last soaring voice on a purpose written track Not Mocked recorded in an old community hall up north and featuring Gabriel White, James McCarthy and Robert Sly as the band.
Keen As (compilation)
A slightly shonky deal with a massive collection of young NZ artists of the day. Features Steve Abel and Gabriel White doing a live acoustic version of Sleep. Recorded with three other unreleased acoustic versions of Wind, Sally and Bullet Filled Lover at the former York St II Brick Castle in Shortland St.
Native Forest Action (compilation)
A rainforest rescue effort pulled together by the genius Nik Jones. Features the exquisite lullaby Best Thing (recorded originally for Forgiven by the Moon). The forests were eventually saved…ahh
